First Citizens Bank Raises $265,000 To Support United Way of the Greater Triangle’s Mission
United Way of the Greater Triangle is on a mission to eradicate poverty and increase social mobility for everyone in North Carolina’s Triangle region. That lofty goal wouldn’t be possible without support from our corporate partners.
Every year, United Way hosts a workplace giving campaign season that asks these partners to dig deep, mobilize their teams, and fundraise in pursuit of United Way’s mission. Those dollars raised help to support more than 85 nonprofit organizations in Wake, Durham, Orange, and Johnston Counties, NC that are doing the on-the-ground work needed to provide immediate support for families and individuals experiencing poverty as well as implementing systemic solutions that will eradicate poverty for good.
As a top 10 campaign partner, First Citizens Bank always shows up big time and 2020 was no exception. This year, their team raised an incredible $265,000 and donated an additional $5,000 to Meals on Wheels of Wake County for the purchase of much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE).
We recently spoke with Pat Eglinton, VP & Manager of Risk and United Way Campaign Leader, about his company’s focus on giving back and how they’re playing a part in helping the Triangle community’s future recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
1. Why is First Citizens Bank passionate about giving back to local communities?
We care about the communities where we live and do business. It’s part of our DNA. This is evident in the overwhelming outcome of this year’s Campaign, as well as the countless number of community activities our associates are involved in, be it engagement with local partners such as United Way of the Greater Triangle or more broadly with our efforts with Teen Cancer America. It’s just what we do and I am so proud to be a part of tha.
2. Your team raised an incredible $265,000 to support United Way’s mission this year! To what do you credit the success of this year’s campaign?
Our associates, 100%. Core to the values and culture of our company is a commitment to our communities. Our associates are “all in,” something that is never more apparent than in the outcome of this year’s campaign. It’s both inspiring and motivating!
3. First Citizens Bank is also donating a generous $5,000 to Meals on Wheels of Wake County to support the purchase of PPE. Why did you choose this organization for that specific donation?
An important aspect of our annual campaign is a complementary non-financial pledge drive to support donations of tangible items to a chosen United Way partner agency. In light of circumstances associated with COVID-19, we pivoted on this historical approach to create a no-contact supply drive. With this new effort, our company committed to making a non-financial donation on behalf of associates that contributed financially to the United Way. Meals on Wheels was the perfect partner agency to support with this effort given the long-standing partnership between our two organizations, as well as the immediate need they face to support their operational model.
4. Why do you personally choose to support United Way?
It’s simple: trust and confidence. I am passionate about investing locally to support those most in need. These investments are critical to improving the lives of individuals that help make our community so special. The United Way’s track record of success provides me with a level of trust and confidence to ensure my investment is directed to those who are most in need.
United Way is grateful for committed champions, like the team at First Citizens Bank, who are making a difference every day. We can’t do it alone. Your partnership is essential to achieving our mission of eradicating poverty and increasing social mobility in the Greater Triangle.
