Leadership Donor Volunteer Event: NC Diaper Bank
On Friday, December 13, 2019 United Way of the Greater Triangle hosted a volunteer event for our Leadership Donors at the Diaper Bank of North Carolina’s Durham location. Forty Leadership Donors from across the Greater Triangle joined for this special morning. A Leadership Donor is an individual who makes an annual contribution of $1,000 dollars or more to United Way of the Greater Triangle. This was a great opportunity for our most generous donors to engage in hands-on work with a nonprofit organization doing incredible work in the Greater Triangle.
The Diaper Bank of North Carolina is an organization that seeks to provide every family in North Carolina with basic necessities in order to support their dignity, health, and quality of life. They currently distribute 12 million diapers per month to families in need across the state and have branches in the Triangle, the Greater Triad, and Lower Cape Fear Region. Michelle Old is the founder of the organization and she gave a rousing speech explaining what the Bank does and how the volunteers’ effort that day would have a significant impact for the organization.
During this event, volunteers assisted the Diaper Bank in a variety of ways from wrapping diapers in packs so they could be organized by size, to organizing feminine hygiene products that are donated year round so they can be easily accessed by employees of the Diaper Bank. Some of the guests were first time volunteers who loved the experience of being able to help those in need in their community. Many of them want to come back for future events and continue to support this great initiative. In the short span of two hours, these donors and volunteers learned about the needs in our community, contributed to the mission of the Diaper Bank, and enjoyed camaraderie and networking with one another. Thank you, Leadership Donors, not only for your generous financial contributions to United Way, but also for giving of your time to serve those in need.
