Katie Battle is a passionate leader and advocate for those in her community. Joining the United Way of the Greater Triangle after serving as Executive Director for the national nonprofit, Musical Empowerment, Katie brings over a decade of skills and experiences from her work in nonprofits and public education to serve as Director of Outreach. Her passion for supporting youth, education, the arts, and families drives her to connect families in need with nonprofit services across the triangle and engage community volunteers to help build a Triangle where everyone can thrive.
Originally from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Katie studied music education at Susquehanna University where she graduated summa cum laude. As a public-school educator, she worked with students from kindergarten through 12th grade and found a special passion for working with students with special needs. She continually worked to build community in her classroom and recognized the positive impact that a supportive and caring relationship with a mentor has on a child’s development. After joining Musical Empowerment, she continued to support students and the arts across North Carolina and beyond, merging her love of music, education, and hands-on community work. Katie continues to make music by composing, performing with the Durham Community Concert Band, and singing with SONAM (Singers of New and Ancient Music) Chorus who partner with local nonprofits to support their community efforts through music.
What drew you to UWGT?
While working at Musical Empowerment, I got to know Jeff Howell, Crystal Wilson, and some of the incredible people working at UWGT. They were passionate, dedicated, and extremely talented. I saw the ways they were showing up for our community and knew I could make an even bigger difference than I was through my work. I love that I get to work even more directly with the community, with volunteers, and with our nonprofit partners. I feel like I’ve only just gotten to learn about the numerous ways nonprofits are working to shape our community and support families, and I can’t wait to engage even deeper with UWGT’s work!
